30 April 2009
The International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA®) recently released the latest version of their Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK® Guide 2.0). Fronde Systems Group is pleased to acknowledge that its two Certified Business Analysis ProfessionalsTM (CBAP®s) – Desirée Purvis and Tony Newport – have made significant contributions to the development of the BABOK® Guide 2.0 and the associated certification exam.
In early 2008 Desirée and Tony volunteered their services as Practitioner Reviewers of the draft BABOK® and were duly accepted. A total of 67 volunteers were selected world-wide and split into four teams. Each team was required to review two chapters each, over two weeks per chapter. Member reviews commenced in mid-February 2008 and were completed late April 2008. A public review was conducted concurrently during the latter stages. The feedback from all the reviews was examined and incorporated into BABOK® v2.0.
In January 2009 Desirée and Tony again volunteered their services, this time to help develop the new certification exam based on the BABOK® v2.0. Desirée was one of 10 CBAP®s worldwide to be selected as a member of the Role Delineation Item Writing Team. This team was convened in Toronto, Canada and spent a week over March/April collating the new examination. This was an intensive process which involved training in psychometric testing, followed by reviewing the performance of existing questions, reviewing and revising draft questions submitted by other CBAP® volunteers, creating additional questions and assembling the various versions of the exam
These questions will undergo a rigorous editing and piloting process over the next few months. It is anticipated that the IIBA® will be ready to launch version 2.0 of the exam on August 1st, 2009.
In volunteering their services, Desirée and Tony recognised these were prime opportunities to help shape the next BABOK® and to contribute to the growth of the IIBA®, both in New Zealand and globally. Fronde believes that establishment of a world-wide certification programme is an important step in recognising the uniqueness and significance of business analysis as a profession within the IT industry, and were pleased to lend their full support to Desirée and Tony.
