Autumn/May Blog Summary

May in NZ

It is hard to decide what has defined May in New Zealand.  Certainly the weather has played a part.  I wanted to use the phrase super city super fast, but while that was what was attempted we were also reminded of the word filibuster.  The budget was read on Thursday 28th (actually, while I am writing this) and no doubt that will be important, but it will be in June that it will be discussed.  I note that Fiji has slipped further off the face of democracy, which I find sad and wonder when and how that can end.

May in Technology

In technology news I find announcements equally un-defining.  In Wellington GOVIS (Government Information System Manager’s Forum) was held.  My colleagues that attended GOVIS tell me that it was useful and informative, but noted a significant drop off in attendees from previous years.  Microsoft released Windows 7 RC (okay it was April 30 in the USA, but that was May in NZ) and, as a release candidate, it should not be that newsworthy; but if you have used Vista, you will understand why it is.  A quick look at various technology news sites and I see that the Star Trek movie gets a mention, which says less about technology and more about technology writers (but I have seen it, and yes it is great).

May in Fronde

Here at Fronde we have attempted to buck some of these trends.  Bad weather went out the door when we announced Spring, or at least our partnership with SpringSource.  You can find the announcement and more detail as to why this partnership is useful for Fronde’s customers in Paul Armstrong’s blog post Spring in May @ Fronde.  Also on the blogs, agile methodologies continue to create interest and a little heat.  In Scrum 101 – taking it from theory to practice and The “Agile landscape” presentation, and how it went down at PMI Carolyn Sanders gives us an insight into a presentation that she gave to the Agile Professionals Network in Auckland and some of the thinking behind agile.  Rochelle Glover, Senior Business Analyst, picked up on the Scrum theme and explored it more detail in Business analysis and Scrum (and thanks to quite a number of comments and feedback, explored it some more).  Lastly Kieron Horide-Hobley, Test Manager, reminded us that one thing that defines this year is that it is the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth and the 150th anniversary of On The Origin Of The Species.  Kieron picks up on Darwin’s theme to discuss how Testing has evolved to survive the ROI test.

We have been blogging now for nearly four months and have found that it is increasingly attracting interest.  We’re getting more readers, and a number of the topics have created quite a bit of interest, which is reflected in comments being left and discussion had.  We hope this reflects the topics we are choosing, but if there is something that you think should be covered we would welcome any suggestions.  Do that by leaving a comment, or talking to anyone at Fronde.
